Description
After attending the renowned Red Bull Music Academy New York in 2013, Barcelona based electro-acoustic producer, musician and sound designer, Leo Aldrey was excited to come back home and start working on a new music project. Something that would include his song crafting partner Salvador Sobral and the talented crew of constructors/artists that, together with Aldrey, put together an audiovisual lab in the vibrant catalan city: filmmaker and guitarist Adolfo Bueno, illustrator and also guitarist Juan Daniel Gonzalez and music technology geek Jon Corcuera with his new self built instrument. Later they would be joined by bassist Frederic Font and drummer Glòria Maurel as the groove pillars of the project, to give life to the truly unique mixture of rhythms and experiences, a compelling call to the senses, that is Noko Woi.
Noko Woi’s debut performance came to be at no other than the flagship, most international music festival of Barcelona – SÓNAR 2014 – where, accompanied with some impressive visual content produced especially for each track, they played their self-titled first album, recorded and mixed at Leo’s own studio and mastered at the Red Bull Music Academy studios in London.
Hard to pin-point to a single genre, Noko Woi, which means “to listen around” in Warao, a Venezuelan native language, invites you to a journey with multiple, simultaneous destinations at once, and inspires you to “balter”: to dance without particular skill or grace, but with extreme joy. Listen around to find that their sound, doesn’t sound like anything else. They sound like Noko Woi.
